After using my 30” wide Hideaway for the past year or so, I decided to “upgrade” so it’d go all the way wall-to-wall in my cargo space. Pretty sweet that I didn’t need to buy a whole new unit.
I got a hideaway double for my 2019 4Runner and have nothing but good things to say about it. I’ve spent the last week camping around Utah and I’ve never had so much space while having a cozy sleeping platform. Also, customer service is on point! I reached out with questions on which leg kit to select and I got a detailed response the next day. Super stoked!
I bought these extra 8” legs to go with my Hideaway single that has uneven floor legs for my 2020 Honda-CRV. In addition to using for car camping, I wanted to use the platform as an extra bed for guests in my house.
What sets the Hideaway apart from other platform beds on the market is that it does exactly what I was looking for - it extends and collapses ... and does so almost effortlessly. No need to re-construct or de-construct each time it is extended or collapsed, like some other platforms. It's designed to fit and be used in most vehicles on the road today right out of the box. But I have a 35 year old Volkwagen Vanagon. So I knew before I bought the Hideaway that I would need to alter it slightly. But I also knew it was a great foundation for what I wanted to do. I live close enough to P.A.W. that I was able to pick it up in person. I met with Reed, who couldn't have been nicer. We discussed a few ways to fit it into my Vanagon. At home, I made just a few simple alterations. It fits perfectly. And now I have what all other Vanagons lack - a garage in the rear so that I don't have to keep shuffling my stuff when it's time to sleep and again when it's time to get up. It takes me less than a minute to either collapse the Hideaway and my bedding during the day (so I can use the Vanagon's rear bench seat in couch mode), or, fold down the seat and extend out both the Hideaway and my bedding to sleep at night. And the stuff in my garage is accessible whether the bed is up or down. The Hideaway is fairly light weight, but solid, well made and well designed. I sleep comfortably on it with no fear or reservation that it might wiggle or collapse. No chance of that happening. And, if I want/need to remove it from my vehicle, it quickly collapses down and rolls up for easy storage. I love it!
Lightweight, easy to assemble. I have a 2020 Honda CRV and am able to push the extensions in, turn it sideways, and it fits perfect in my trunk. As a bonus, it makes handy shelves in my trunk. I am able to store all my camp stuff underneath. It folds up compact for storage as well. I live the fact that I in the future, I could order the doublewide topper and use the same frame. I am going to order another set of longer legs so that I can also use it as a cot in my house for guests.
Just received my bed yesterday set it up in my campulance what a neat product thank you so much, Michelle in Florida
I have a 2023 Toyota Tacoma crew cab with a 6-foot bed and a LEER 180 camper shell. I built a sleeping platform out of plywood and 2x4 last year and was pretty much happy with the set up under my LEER shell until Reed came along with the "no-build" platform; specifically, the Hideaway Single.
A few months after I'd installed my wooden platform there were a number of times when I needed to use my truck bed for hauling various large items, but was unable to do so given my platform wasn't the easiest or convenient to remove. It could be done, but it was a pain! But I just figured I'd live with it as I hadn't been able to find an adjustable cot/platform that would fit my truck bed space and also allow me some headroom under the LEER shell. Once I saw Reed and his Hideaway platform on Facebook, I was very intrigued. A fully adjustable, seriously stable, well-engineered and designed sleeping platform, ALONG with the Exped sleeping pad that fits my truck bed like a glove!
I love the ability to store gear below the Hideaway, as well as on top of the Hideaway when traveling. But far and above the most appealing feature (for me) of the Hideaway is its ease of not only removal from my truck bed, but due to its modular design, its ability to be disassembled, rolled up within the canvas platform and then placed into my garage (taking up very little space) until the next time I'm ready for an adventure. And until that time, my truck bed serves as a truck bed that I can use anytime.
I just returned from an annual 5-night Christmas camp trip and I couldn't be any happier with the performance of the Hideaway and the exceptional comfort and warmth of the Exped sleeping pad.
Sure its pricey, but I have found exactly what I was looking for and based upon the excellent design and quality of material used in its construction, I will have the Hideaway to enjoy for many years to come.
I highly recommend the Hideaway and the Exped sleeping pad.
Well done Reed!

The mat arrived quickly. Followed instructions for self inflation for 24 hours, but only 1 side of the mat self inflated. Topped off with 20+ pumps of the foot pump and it was good to go. Only used once but it was incredibly comfortable. Would highly recommend this mat and also purchasing through Pacific Adventure Works. Great company.
This product works perfect for my 2011 Honda CRV. The platform did come with a broken screw, but a quick response from Reed got me a replacement with no trouble!
Really great product! Made to last for years.
This big boy is gonna be sleeping good tonight.
I have been loving my Hideaway!! It makes me much more mobile and flexiable when I am out exploring and fly fishing. I don't have to worry about backtracking to my tent or campground. After a long day on the river, I can just find a spot nearby, and everything I need for a good night’s sleep is in my truck (5th Gen 4-Runner). I also have found that it extends my ability to go camping and fishing into the shoulder seasons when it is colder. I find I am warmer in my truck than in a tent on the ground. I considered a teardrop-type camper - but the hassle of towing, winterizing, insurance, and maintenance wasn't really appealing for my needs - so the Hideway gives me a really simple solution. I can be using my truck to camp tonight and then using my truck for yard work and hauling the next day, with minimal effort. It is so light and easy to take in and out. The storage space underneath is awesome. Pro Tip: I use the Plano Sportsman Storage Trunks ($20-$50 depending on capacity) - I can fit two perfectly side by side under the Hideaway single. They work like drawers for all your gear.
You made a Scottish man spend some money so well done Pacific Adventure Works. I love the product. Did a load of research and this is perfect for my non committal mind set and love of quality items. Looking forward to summer adventures..and thanks for the hand written note Reed:)
Bought a Hideaway single a few months back for my ‘23 Transit Trail in an effort to maintain the flexibility between work and travel. As many of you know, outfitting an adventure van can be extremely costly while simultaneously rendering the van useless for anything else. Just did a crosscountry trip from San Diego to Florida (hurricanes included, lol) and the Hideaway performed flawlessly. High quality craftsmanship, super easy to setup/take down and very lightweight. Reid, the owner answers the phones there, at least when I called he did and talks to you like you’ve been his next door neighbor for 20yrs as well…top notch! A lil pricey sure but the price of freedom has always been high.
I was looking for a solution for my 2006 CRV (Gen 2) and was going back and forth between buying this and building something from scratch. Most other platforms on the market aren't made to fit the older CRVs, so I wasn't sure it'd work, but wanted to try.
I just took it on a 1,400 mile road trip and slept on it for several nights with 2 large dogs. Before I left for my trip, I set it up in the cargo area with the extendable supports pushed in and used it to store sleeping pads and a water jug above my other gear while maintaining access to the back seats during travel. When I rolled up to the campsite each night, it was easy to set up by myself as it just requires folding the seats down, adjusting a few screw in knobs, sliding the supports into position, and flipping the topper over the supports.
To maximize storage underneath without compromising too much headroom, I got the step platform, but ordered some stubby legs to go on top of the seats since the rise is between 8 inches and 14 inches on a slant when folded forward. This was the perfect amount of room for me as a side sleeper. I couldn't sit upright, but I had enough room that it didn't feel claustrophobic.
While on day trips from my destination, I've left it up to block the view of what's in the cargo area and keep my pups out of groceries, but it will easily roll up and be stored in the cargo box up top when I go back to my regular routine.
The rubber stoppers at the end of the horizontal pieces don't love to stay in, but I'm going to fix that with some kind of adhesive. Other than that, it's about as perfect as can be for what I needed and their customer service team is super responsive and works to make sure everything is exactly right.
Overall, it was worth the cost for its ease of setup and stowability. Plus, when it's time for a newer vehicle, it'll transfer right over. Here's to more adventures!
Anytime a company includes a handwritten note I’ll write a review, love to see it- took the PAW XL on our first camping trip this week, it worked out just fine! We both snuggled up comfortably in the back of my Taco and were able to travel with plenty of storage underneath. It’s a really great lightweight option if you’re trying to stay away from a bunch of wood; no build, TOTALLY worth it IMO. Will give y’all a shoutout on the YouTube, cheers 🤙🏼
The Pacific Adventure Works Hideaway XL Platform is an exceptional piece of outdoor gear and combined with the Exped MegaMat Dueo 10, it makes a great sleeping combination platform. Its sturdy construction and industrial design make it perfect for those who want comfort and durability in the wilderness. The platform is easy to set up and provides a stable, elevated space for camping or lounging as well as storage (height can be easilty changed), which adds a layer of safety and comfort. The XL size is ideal for accommodating the two of us and or extra gear, and its versatility makes it a must-have for serious adventurers. Overall, it's a reliable and practical solution for outdoor enthusiasts looking to enhance their experience. Our first trip was amazing and the Pacific Adventure Works sleeping platform made it very comfortable for us without having to use our tent.
We are so grateful to have purchased the XL platform that fits both our 2018 VW Atlas and our 1991 FJ80 Land Cruiser. We found it very easy to get set up and our first weekend on the trails was terrific using the platform and bundled air matress. Super comfortable, well made and easy to break down for storage. We would highly recommend this solution if you are looking for a great sleeping platform as well as storage.
I immediately slept in my car for 5 days following receiving it. It is easy to set up, seems built to last, and was very comfortable with the DeepSleep.
Not very much headspace with this setup in a 2021 Rav4 - but I don't mind that much, I'm just in there to sleep.
In general, it's a good solution to a problem. However, this mouse trap could use some refinement. I don't think it breaks down enough and easily enough for what it is. Sure you can take it completely apart, but that becomes a little bit of a pain when you have to put it back together, typically at the campsite. I also think that it does have a lot of versatility which is really really good! However, this is not a cheap item. And I think that's its biggest drawback. This was half the cost. I would've easily bought two.
