At Pacific Adventure Works, we believe camping should be effortless, comfortable, safe, and accessible. Our mission is to help more people enjoy the outdoors with ease through thoughtfully designed vehicle-based gear.

Hi, I’m reed

The story of the Hideaway Sleeping Platform starts with my passion for the outdoors. I surf, mountain bike, ski, fly fish, backpack, camp, ride dirt bikes, moto camp—you name it, I’ve probably tried it. I love the outdoors—and I love creating outdoor gear that helps people make the most of their time out there.

Before founding this company, I spent more than 15 years in the outdoor gear industry in product development, working for some of the “big brands” (think Thule & Dometic). You can find the award-winning products I’ve worked on at your local REI.

It all started in baja

The idea that became the Hideaway Sleeping Platform made me realize I was ready to start my next adventure and create my own company. My wife and I live in Santa Cruz, and after a few surf trips down to Baja, I decided I wanted to sleep in my Landcruiser instead of worrying about camping out. I thought about building a wooden platform, but it was too heavy and difficult to take in and out.

I wanted something lightweight, easy to set up and remove, and that I could adjust in height and stash my gear underneath. Nothing like this existed, so the first Hideaway prototype was born. After its christening on that trip, it’s been tested, tweaked, and re-tweaked until I loved the end result. I hope you like it too.

Our company is small, but we have big dreams – to responsibly make high-quality gear that lasts year after year while minimizing any negative impact on our community and planet. We welcome you along for the ride, appreciate your feedback, and look forward to more time outside, making the memories that matter.

Frequently Asked Questions

We designed the Hideaway to fit as many vehicles as possible—at least the ones you actually want to sleep in.

Cars: Once you fold your passenger seats down, the frame telescopes to fit your vehicle’s exact dimensions. Loosen the blue leg knobs and adjust the horizontal supports for the perfect fit. If you can’t extend it fully to 72”, try this:

  • Tilt the front seat backs forward and/or slide the front seats up.

If you’re still not able to extend it fully, no worries! Fold the excess topper back or let it hang over the edge. Once your mattress is on top, small mismatches tend to disappear when you inflate it and lie down.

Trucks: Install the Hideaway Sleeping Platform in your truck bed and extend the platform to your desired length. If you can’t fully extend it to 72”, no big deal! Just fold the excess topper back or let it drape over the edge. Throw your mattress on top, and you’re good to go!

We’re pretty confident you won’t have any issues during normal use, but we know—sh*t happens! We designed the Hideaway to be easily repairable. We keep a full inventory of all parts, and most can be repaired without tools. Just shoot us an email at info@pacificadventureworks.com, and we’ll get you sorted.

The Hideaway is designed for easy storage. It folds down compactly, so you can stash it in your car, garage, or wherever you need it out of sight until your next adventure.

The best way is to fold down your rear seats and check out the trunk floor. Is it flat? And are the seat backs flat too, or are they angled/uneven?

We definitely recommend a mattress! We’ve found that mattresses around 4” thick hit the sweet spot between comfort and headroom. Our top picks are the Exped Megamat Duo, HEST Foamy, and Dually. Don’t stress if the mattress isn’t an exact fit for the Hideaway platform. Small mismatches tend to disappear once you inflate the mattress and lay down.

Yes, friends of ours have definitely tested it and can confirm—it’s durable for all your adventures!
