How is the Hideaway Sleeping Platform different from competitors?
Great question!
The Hideaway:
- Assembles, telescopes, and adjusts with no tools
- Is the lightest sleeping platform on the market
- Supports a lot of weight (rated for 400lbs dynamic load)
- Is modular- switching to a different size is simple with our size conversion kits
- Uses rugged materials like anodized aluminum instead of wood, along with stainless steel hardware, injection molded nylon and burly 500D fabric.
We make great gear that lasts, here in the USA. We fit over 9,000 vehicles and offer a 7-year warranty, with lifetime support. We stock all spare parts and every Hideaway is completely rebuildable. We also won the 2024 Outdoor Retailer Innovation Award!
How is the Hideaway different from a wooden off-the-shelf or DIY sleeping platform?
We’ve all tried it… but we’ve found a lot of issues with it too.
Wooden platforms are often really heavy- easily over 100lbs, which makes them difficult to remove and install quickly. They absorb a lot of moisture and can contribute to mold growth. Plus they end up taking up a lot of precious space which is one of the reasons why you wanted a platform in the first place.
You also need access to power tools and a place to do the building.
For those of us who want something simple and lightweight without the fuss, there’s the Hideaway.
Do I need a mattress or can I sleep right on the Hideaway sleeping platform?
We definitely recommend a mattress! We find that mattresses around 4” thick are right in the sweet spot of comfort vs headroom. Our favorite is the Exped Megamat or Luxemat- anything with foam + air construction. Don’t sweat it if the mattress doesn’t share the exact dimensions of your Hideaway sleeping platform. We find that most small dimension mismatches tend to “disappear” once you inflate your mattress and lay on it.
What are your slats made of?
The slats inside of the black fabric are made of 1” x 2” 6063 T5 aluminum tubing. In our testing we found wood to be too variable to use as an engineered material. The aluminum slats are lightweight and stiff- its a completely different experience than sleeping on a cot, suspended by fabric.
Is the length adjustable?
Yes, each Hideaway is adjustable in length and telescopes from 39” to 72”. A lot of our customers collapse the platform down to 39” and keep it in their trunk as a gear shelf when they aren’t using it.
What if I want to put it in a different car or change the size?
Easy- that’s what the adjustable length and legs are there for. Plus if you want to switch sizes the Hideaway is modular so we make Size Conversion Kits to get just the parts you need to make your Hideaway a different size.
Are the legs adjustable?
Yes, each leg is independently adjustable so you can customize the fit to your vehicle and get your bed leveled while making room for gear underneath.
Do you make shorter legs for more headroom?
Definitely. Check out our popular Stubby Leg Kit which will lower the platform 3-4 inches. Customers with an Uneven or Step floor often add these on for more headroom. Use these stubby legs on the folded seat backs and shift the smallest adjustable leg to the middle, and the medium adjustable leg to the bumper. Don’t use the longest adjustable legs.
Do you make longer legs?
The Hideaway and leg kits are designed as a system. But we do offer longer legs as a special add-on. Please reach out to us at info@pacificadventureworks.com for more information.
How do I know the Hideaway Sleeping Platform fits my vehicle?
Great question! We specifically designed the Hideaway to fit as many vehicles as possible- at least the ones you actually want to sleep in. We’ve confirmed fit in over 9,000 vehicles- be sure to look yours up in our Fit Guide.
SUVs:
Once you fold your passenger seats down, the frame telescopes to fit the exact amount of space your vehicle allows. Loosen the blue knobs on the extension and you can even do a fine adjustment to extend the horizontal supports past the legs, for maximum platform extension. If you find you can’t extend to the full 72” try this:
Tilt the front seat backs forward
Slide the front seats up
If you try this but can’t get more extension don’t sweat it! Fold the excess topper back over itself or let it drape over the edge. Put your mattress on top and try it out. Most small mismatches tend to “disappear” once you inflate your mattress and lay on it.
Trucks and Vans:
Install the Hideaway in the bed of your truck or back of your van and telescope the platform to your desired length. If you can’t extend the full 72” don’t sweat it! Fold the excess topper back over itself or let it drape over the edge. Put your mattress on top and try it out.
Is the Hideaway approved for nighttime activities? Asking for a friend…
Yes, *friends* of ours have tested this and can attest to the durability. Each Hideaway is rated at 400lbs dynamic load limit. Static load limit is over double that.
What if I need a replacement part?
We are confident you won’t have any issues during normal use, but we know we sh*t happens! We designed the Hideaway to be easily repairable. We have full inventory of all parts and most can be repairable without tools. Drop us an email at info@pacificadventureworks.com and we will be happy to sort you out.
