Finally had the chance to hit the road. I was prepared to sleep in the car but found my car-tent is perfect, dimensionally, to put that Hideaway on the ground.
With the Exped mattress, the Hideaway was an excellent sleeping solution, and a seat for other camping needs. It was all set up in the car, but revising the level was simple.
Prior to my trip, I marked each hole on the opposite side- that eliminated “fishing” for the next hole, up or down. The hideaway will serve my needs well!
With Neuropathy in my legs, sciatic nerve damage, and two injured rotator cuff injuries I should sleep just fine on the ground.
So far, I have only taken my Hideaway on one trip, but I have been very happy with it! I can fit it inside my 2018 Subaru Forrester and I love how I can store things underneath it. I plan to use this to extend my camping into the fall and early winter in the wet and cool Pacific Northwest.
Hi guys. I’m just now getting the hideaway installed into my car a 2024 Toyota Highlander. It’s been hot here in Arkansas and I am just now seeing how it fits. I installed the hideaway sidekick into the car and had no problems with its fit other than the bucket seat, captains chairs, whatever you want to call the second row do not allow for the legs to be supported and they must be supported on the floor.
You sent me an uneven set of legs. The other two work just fine, but the long legs are not long enough to reach the floor and maintain a level sleeping platform. It looks like it may take another modification for a longer leg for the install to be correct. Other than this problem the product it’s performing as you said it would and it is going to be a joy to sleep level in this car once I solve the front leg problems behind the driver seat thanks.
Typically we recomend the legs toward the front of the vehicle to be resting on the 2nd row folded seat backs so that you preserve the passenger footwells for storage space. We will reach out to you directly to help you through this type of fitment.
Have been able to have some wonderful camping trips with this Hideaway frame. It is light and easy to put together. It creates the best platform to sleep on (with thick bed pad). Love being able to put things under to store out of the way. It is definitely a game changer for camping. Off to more adventures! Thank you for creating this! I love it!
Hate to be the lone dissenter, but the Sidekick is not working for me in my 2011 Xterra. I don't find it to be as easy to assemble, some of the legs are finicky and won't pop into place without significant wiggling and finessing. More importantly, however, the thing just takes up too much space and isn't comfortable. I had been hoping to use a sleeping mat I already have, but the placement and thickness of the support bars make it way too uncomfortable. Using a thicker pad (the one I have is about 2" thick) would put me too close to the ceiling to be comfortable for sleeping. I wish I could return but I purchased as part of a Kickstarter campaign.
We are sorry to hear about your negative experience Julie! The Hideaway should go together as easy as putting a kayak or SUP paddle together. Sleep comfort is super unique to an individual and we find that our customers have the best results with a 4' thick foam+air mattress.
Please reach out to customer service so we can sort you out!

I bought a trifold mattress, works, but no storage underneath, I bought a cot that was cheaply made and it's shape distorted after a single use and it has too many short criss crossed legs for storage underneath. I bought an interlaced wooden pull out type bed frame that was way too complicated to even put together, and way to heavy anyway! THIS is the answer to all your sleeping and storage issues. Very sturdy, very easy to assemble, very light weight so you can move it, plenty of usable, accessible storage underneath. Don't mess around with other bed frames. Just BUY THIS and be done with it!!! I DID use a thinner trifold mattress on top of this frame and it's perfection! I cannot say enough great things about this product! Luckily I got in on the Kick Starter launch, But this product is worth the money! If you buy other cheaper frames, you will learn the hard way!
I have had several bed set ups in the back of my pickup with a high canopy on it. Both homebuilt and manufactered. This one, by far is the best one. Definitely has a steep price, but the adaptability and strength of this bed frame far exceeds anything I have tried so far. I like that I can use it both in the bed of my 6.5 foot Silverado bed, with the adapter leg for the wheel well, or in my Shiftpod tent, and adjust the legs for uneven ground (within reason) for a level bed frame. I have only tested it so far while parked in the driveway, but I am very pleased.
We wanted a sleep system for two in our Sienna, but needed it to be super flexible and modular, accommodating the "people mover" format and also the "micro camper for two" format. With simple swap over. This unit fits perfectly as a full sized bed AND easily shifts into a behind the second row seats shelf. Amazing. And it's light, easy to set up, break down. Honestly, I can't think of one thing I'd change. Y'all nailed it with this product. Thank you!
We love that it is lightweight, sturdy, and well made. And it fits perfectly in our old Sienna. The only negative was that the buttons on some of the legs that are supposed to easily snap into their respective holes required extra force and manipulation to get them to snap in — as if they don’t quite line up perfectly. Maybe that problem will go away as we perform future setups.
I spent a week on the road exploring new rivers with the Hideaway Double & Exped MegaMat Duo M. This set-up is a total game changer. You can shorten the platform and deflate the pad if you have multiple destinations and need to re-organize your car for the journey. The MegaMat Duo is the best sleeping pad I’ve ever used and the pump makes inflating and deflating super easy. If you’re looking for a modular car camping set-up,Pacific Adventure Works would definitely be a smart choice.
I say so far because I have a house move going on and couldn't complete the last part of the installation, but since putting the frame together went so well, I anticipate the rest will go smoothly, too. I was impressed with the quality of the materials. The frame is light-weight but sturdy. I worry about putting something new together, but this was a pleasure, and the written instructions, which I prefer over video, were great. I'm looking forward to it being exactly what I need!
Totally happy with the solution and the service. Managed to get the Hideaway to Germany and could use it in time! THX
The Hideaway XL was perfect for my 2000 Toyota 4Runner. With seats folded down I can fit a 66”x49” mattress, and if I remove the bottom back seats I can extend it much farther. Thinking about making a small mattress block to fit in near the tailgate for those times I want a longer mattress. With seats folded, the front floor sits 1.5” higher than the back; I ended up cutting the XL’s front legs down to 5” and the middle and back to 7” to get the platform sitting just above the wheel wells at its lowest. Still have enough room to slide bins underneath. I used a couple 1.125” washers inside some of the rubber feet to level it perfectly on flat ground. This way I need not do anything in a flat parking lot, but still have plenty of adjustment on uneven terrain. Breaking the whole thing down only takes 2 minutes; I love this setup!
Fits my truck perfectly.
Super fast shipping, got here in great shape solid price sent a sticker and a thank you note What more could you possibly want. Highly recommended
I would have appreciated some written instructions and diagrams. Also, I hate the push button locking system. It requires more hand strength than I have. But once it was assembled, it was super stable and comfortable even with legs fully extended. I would recommend it!
We've loved using this in our Sequoia! It doesn't sacrifice storage space, which is awesome. Love the versatiliy - it's strong, quick and easy to use. We've even used it at home when guests come to stay a while. Beats sleeping on the ground!
I'm not sure I've ever written a review, but in this case, I am happy to. I think Pacific Adventure Works is the best small business in the USA. It certainly has the best customer service I have ever experienced, and I have lived a long time. I had questions, and Reed went above and beyond to answer all of them and get me the correct legs for my vehicle.
I bought the Hideaway Single, and I think it is a brilliant product:
1. I don't have to put up a tent.
2. I don't have to sleep on the ground.
3. I don't have to buy an RV.
4. I don't need tools to set it up or adjust it.
As a single female senior citizen, this makes camping even more enjoyable for me, and I am grateful for that!
Had a few parts arrive with shipping damage, but the owner quickly called and replaced the damaged parts. A great low-weight option with reasonable shipping costs to Alaska.
I was looking for a solution to turn our Sienna into a weekend camper for our family of 4. We had a chance to use the XL this weekend and everyone had a blast. The kids couldn't wait to play and sleep in the bed inside our car! I had a special request to get the 6" legs so we could optimize for headroom and Reed was able to accommodate us perfectly. I believe this should be a purchase option!

I am really impressed with the quality of build and the sturdiness. I use an Exped MegaMat 10 XL and it is very comfortable and it fits my Honda Pilot perfectly. The recommended leg lengths were perfect for my vehicle. The only problem I experienced was that the build quality is so tight that I found it difficult to snap the cross-bars into place. However, I would rather have to wrestle with it to get it into place that to have it wobble (which it doesn't). Hopefully over time it will loosen up enough to be easier to assemble. My only other suggestion would be for it to come with a bag that will hold the frame, topper, cross supports, and legs. Rolling all of this up into the topper does not seem secure and would be easy for a leg to slid out and me not notice.
I've had roof top tent and a ground tent and a homemade sleep platform made out of plywood. This is the most versatile, lightweight solution for a sleep platform in any rig! Being able to adjust the legs allows me to leave the second row seats in, or removed. I'm even thinking about setting it up outside on the ground if the weather is good. I'm using it in a Mitsubishi Montero but I like the idea that I can transfer it to the next vehicle when the time comes. Well built and will last a very long time!
