Leg Kit

How to choose Leg Kit

Choose the Leg Kit based on how the floor of your trunk looks when the rear seats are folded down:

When you fold the seats down, is the surface they create flat and level with the trunk? Then your floor is “flat” and you need the Flat Floor Leg Kit.

When you fold the seats down, is there an inch or two difference between the seat back and the trunk floor? And/or is the seat back angled? Then your floor is “uneven” and you need the Uneven Floor Leg Kit.

When you fold the seats down, is there a large 6"+ difference between the seat back and the trunk floor? Then your floor is "step" and you need the Step Floor Leg Kit.

FAQ

Do I need a mattress or can I sleep right on the Hideaway sleeping platform?

We definitely recommend a mattress!  We find that mattresses around 4” thick are right in the sweet spot of comfort vs headroom.  Our favorites are the Exped Megamat Duo, HEST Foamy and Dually.  Don’t sweat it if the mattress doesn’t share the exact dimensions of your Hideaway sleeping platform.  We find that most small size mismatches tend to “disappear” once you inflate your mattress and lay on it.

How do I know the Hideaway Sleeping Platform fits my vehicle?

Great question!  We specifically designed the Hideaway to fit as many vehicles as possible- at least the ones you actually want to sleep in.

Cars:

Once you fold your passenger seats down, the frame telescopes to fit the exact amount of space your vehicle allows.  Loosen the blue leg knobs on the extension and you can even do a fine adjustment to extend the horizontal supports past the legs, for maximum platform extension. If you find you can’t extend to the full 72” try this:

Tilt the front seat backs forward and/or slide the front seats up.

If you try this but can’t get more extension don’t sweat it!  Fold the excess topper back over itself or let it drape over the edge. Put your mattress on top and try it out. Most small mismatches tend to “disappear” once you inflate your mattress and lay on it.

Trucks:

Install the Hideaway in the bed of your truck and telescope the platform to your desired length. If you can’t extend the full 72” don’t sweat it! Fold the excess topper back over itself or let it drape over the edge.  Put your mattress on top and try it out.

Is the Hideaway approved for nighttime activities?  Asking for a friend…

Yes, *friends* of ours have tested this and can attest to the durability!

What if I need a replacement part?

We are confident you won’t have any issues during normal use, but we know we sh*t happens!  We designed the Hideaway to be easily repairable.  We have full inventory of all parts and most can be repairable without tools.  Drop us an email at info@pacificadventureworks.com and we will be happy to sort you out.

How do I know which type to get- Flat Floor or Uneven Floor?

The best way is to fold you rear seats down and look.  The trunk floor should be flat but are the seat backs now flat too or angled/uneven?

Another way to verify is this:

When you put your rear seats down do you fold the bench
forward and then fold the seatback down? This usually creates a Flat Floor.

Or do you only fold the seat backs down?  This usually creates an Uneven Floor.

Great experience

So far I’ve had a good experience with my single hideaway. The standard set up wasn’t quite right for my car but after some reconfiguration Reed helped me tweak it with some new legs and I’m on my way. Great customer service. Thank you so very much!

Fits in the Honda Fit

I’m getting great sleep in a crammed Fit on a car camping bike racing adventure. I’ve got two bikes, two sets of extra wheels, tools, spares, solar generator, refrigerator and more. The hideaway single is a key to organizing everything and stretching fully out to sleep. I’m 5’ 8”. As the rest of the car hatch tent and I’ve got another foot and a half. A few quick adjustments in the morning and I’m on the road.

Almost perfect

Now that I have had the Hideaway single for a while, it's time to write a review.
During the unboxing process, I noticed some pieces of blue plastic in the box. It turns out the pieces are from the bushings from the foot end of the unit. There are two bushings, both were damaged during shipping. Better packaging would have prevented this.
Assembly was straight forward, although I had a difficult time getting some of the parts to lock into place. I initially set the height of the feet to their highest setting. After installing in the vehicle, I realized I needed to lower the height. That turned out to be an adventure, when you press in the button to release the foot, if the foot turns during the adjustment process, it is very difficult to locate the next hole in line. The press in buttons used to make the adjustment are on the inside of the unit, making them almost impossible to see while the unit is in the vehicle. Some type of anti-rotation mechanism would be helpful.
Usage - for a mattress, I use a 4 inch closed cell pad, then on top of that a 3 inch memory foam topper. Total of 7 inches of mattress. Even with that, I could feel the "ribs" that make up the top of the unit. The ribs are spaced about 4 inches apart. I placed a thin piece of plywood between the top of the hideaway and my mattresses, and voila, I no longer felt the ribs. Sleeping on the Hideaway is almost as comfortable as my bed at home.

Initial Review

I preface this review saying I have not slept out on it yet (no time yet). It went together well. The hardware was high quality, one small glitch was remedied immediately. The concept is very elegant, it rolls up and stores in a corner when not in use, no large wood panels like other kits. Taking it out to the campground seems like a no-brainer, my BMW X3 is not big enough to have the bed fully deployed on the way out, but the topper rolls up and the frame collapses and you just store your gear on it, around it, or under it. It seems pretty flexible long term, I bought the single for now, but if I have company, I could get the double topper since the single and double share the same underframe.

Exceeded my expectations by far. Reed was invaluable in both the ordering process and the installation. 7 out of 5 stars.
